The Sixth Annual CIC Charity Softball Game Was a Home Run for Ukrainian Relief Effort

TARRYTOWN — Summer decided to stick around for at least one more day as the CIC’s 6th Annual Charity Softball Game took place on October 2 at Tarrytown’s Losee Park. Under a clear blue sky, with temperatures in the 80s and the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge once again serving as a picturesque backdrop, 22 players of all skill levels took the field as the Pavers once again battled the Builders in a friendly game of slow-pitch softball.

For the sixth year, the CIC brought the construction industry together for its annual Charity Softball Game, marking the fifth consecutive year partnering with St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yonkers. The church helped ensure that all proceeds from the event would go to Ukrainian families and orphans. This year, more than $18,000 was raised through the generosity of 19 company sponsors, underwriters, and labor unions.

After enjoying a lunch of burgers, wings, and pizza, the teams set their lineups, and the game got underway. Matt Fante of Darante Construction Ltd. took the mound for the Builders, who had home-field advantage this year, while Ryan Capalbo of the Construction Industry Council took the mound for the visiting Pavers.

The game again used a one-pitch format, ensuring that every player would get an at-bat each inning. Things appeared evenly matched after the first three innings, with the score at 7–4 heading into the fourth. That would be the last time the game was within reach for the Pavers, as the Builders’ bats came alive and the team went on to score 14 more runs over the next three innings. Although the Pavers continued to try to catch up, the game ended with a score of Builders 21, Pavers 9.

The Construction Industry Council will host its seventh annual Charity Softball Game in the fall of 2027. Keep an eye on the CIC website for scheduling information.
