Westchester Board Approves $6 Million

for Three Infrastructure Upkeep Projects

WHITE PLAINS—The Westchester County Board of Legislators unanimously approved the funding of three infrastructure projects across the county at its meeting on Monday, Sept. 28.

The legislation provides more than $6 million for flood control in Yonkers and Complete Streets projects in four villages, while authorizing agreements with more than 20 municipalities for no-cost upkeep of Bee-Line bus shelters.

In Yonkers, legislators approved $1.85 million for a flood control project along Harrison Avenue. The funding will cover construction of drainage improvements designed to prevent stormwater from pooling. The county and City of Yonkers will split the cost of the improvements for the duration of the construction, which is expected to start in the fall of 2027.

Four villages will split $4.2 million for sidewalk, crosswalk, and intersection upgrades. Through its Complete Streets program, the county will cover up to half the construction cost of projects in Tarrytown, Mamaroneck, Tuckahoe and Sleepy Hollow. The work will include an extension of the RiverWalk in Sleepy Hollow, as well as curb repairs, landscaping, and safer crossings.

The Board of Legislators also approved a measure that will keep Bee-Line bus shelters in 20 municipalities across the county clean, safe, and in good repair, including snow removal, at no cost to taxpayers. InSite Street Media, an outdoor advertising company, will perform the work and cover the cost through advertising displayed on the shelters.

Chairman Vedat Gashi (D–New Castle, Ossining, Somers, Yorktown) said, “Some of the Board’s best work happens when we partner with local municipalities. By sharing costs with our villages, working with Yonkers on flood control, and using advertising revenue to maintain bus shelters, we’re making County resources go further and delivering needed improvements for residents across Westchester.”
