Rockland County Executive Releases 2027
Budget Proposal; No New Property Taxes
New City, NY—Rockland County Executive Ed Day released his planned 2027 budget proposal on Thursday, Oct. 1. The $964.8 million budget proposal is highlighted by Exec. Day’s plan to once again have a zero increase in county property taxes.
This proposal continues Executive Day’s trend of cautious and responsible spending, which has helped his administration to overcome the $138 million deficit it inherited when he took office in 2014. The county tax rate has not increased in several years, thanks to Day’s budget decisions. According to his current proposal, the continued flat tax rate relies in part on the use of $32 million in appropriated fund balance.
“This will be the sixth consecutive year that I am proposing we do not raise County Property Taxes. In fact, in that time we have cut them by 4%,” said County Exec. Day. “This is our way of still giving money back to the people, while continuing to act with caution and responsibility.”
Revenue from grants, sales tax and tourism also have helped to maintain the county’s financial stability.
“Cars and restaurants are big in Rockland County as far as sales tax is concerned. If more money is coming in through your sales tax, don’t spend it automatically. Use it to reinvest into your own people,” Exec. Day said.
Other budget highlights include supporting volunteers through the Higher Education Recruitment and Retention Opportunities (HERROS) program, which provides college tuition reimbursement to emergency volunteers; preserving open space by utilizing grant funds to cover any necessary spending on parks and trails; streamlining law department processes and workflow to save taxpayer dollars; and enhancing information technology services for stronger cybersecurity.
A public hearing will be held on Nov. 20 where residents can voice any concerns about the budget. The 2027 proposal is expected to be adopted in December 2026.
