NA Carpenters Council Appoints Anthony Villa

To Serve as a Regional Manager, Eastern NY

ALBANY—The North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters (NASRCC) announced last week the promotion of veteran union leader Anthony Villa as one of two regional managers to oversee nearly 10,000 union members across five locals in New York State. He will share responsibilities with Jim Mason, with Mr. Villa covering Eastern NY and Mr. Mason covering Central and Western NY, in a position that was formerly held by longtime Regional Manager William “Bill” Banfield, who retired on July 31.

In these new roles, Messrs. Villa and Mason will lead organizing efforts, represent members in labor and community partnerships, and ensure continued advocacy for fair wages, safe worksites and expanded access to union careers.

“Anthony and Jim bring decades of experience and a real understanding of what it takes to keep our members and contractors successful,” said Joe Byrne, executive secretary-treasurer of the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters. “They’ll play an important role in strengthening our workforce, supporting our contractors and preparing the next generation of carpenters to meet the industry’s growing demands.”

In his previous position, Mr. Villa served as Business Manager of the Carpenters Local 290 on Long Island. He has been in the union for 24 years, holding various positions at the UBC at both the local level and at the regional council level.

Starting as an apprentice in 2001, Mr. Villa worked his way up to shop steward and then foreman, where he was responsible for some of the largest projects in Westchester County and New York City. In 2013, he was hired as a council representative for the Northeast Regional Council of Carpenters and was stationed on Long Island with Carpenters Local 290.

Mr. Villa was elected to the Executive Board of Local 290 in 2015, serving as a recording secretary. He went on to be elected as vice president and ultimately president where he currently serves. He was later named appointed business manager of the Long Island Carpenters Union until his recent promotion to Eastern NY Regional Manager.

Mr. Villa was born and raised in the Bronx where he went on to attend and graduate from Fordham University. While in school, Mr. Villa joined Carpenters Local Union (then Local 11) in Hawthorne, NY. He completed his undergraduate degree in 1998 by enrolling in night classes, which enabled him to continue working during the day at his trade with the Carpenters union.

Mr. Villa is also active in his community and dedicated to making a difference in young people’s lives through volunteering and by working with his local neighborhood associations. The charitable contributions and work he has played a role in, while being a leader in the North Atlantic States Regional Carpenters, have positively affected and influenced the lives of countless young people in the NY Metropolitan area.

A lifelong resident of Westchester, Mr. Villa has been married for 16 years to his wife, Catia, a registered dental hygienist. They have two sons and a daughter.
