CIC’s John Cooney Named ‘2026 Trailblazer in Construction’
TARRYTOWN, NY—John Cooney Jr., executive director of the Construction Industry Council of Westchester & Hudson Valley, Inc. was named one of the 2026 Trailblazers in Construction by City & State New York.
Mr. Cooney was among more than 40 executives statewide engaged in the construction and building sectors, along with association, building trades and government agencies the publication characterized as “trailblazers.”
The publication noted that Mr. Cooney, who has been a member of the construction industry for more than four decades, is a leading construction advocate in the Hudson Valley and represents more than 600 construction companies in his role at the Tarrytown-based CIC.
In fact, Mr. Cooney has been a leading voice calling for more funding for the transportation capital program, and specifically NYSDOT Region 8, to mitigate the rising costs due to inflation.
He also serves as a management trustee on multiemployer union benefits programs and joint labor-management funds, including the New York State Laborers-Employers Cooperation and Education Trust. Mr. Cooney is a treasurer of the New York Roadway and Infrastructure Coalition, which lobbies for increased transportation funding in New York State.
Outside of the construction industry, Mr. Cooney also serves on the boards of the Westchester County Association and Hudson Valley Pattern for Progress.
