Thalle Industries Tackles Driver Shortage With
Purchase of Custom-Built Training Vehicle
BRIARCLIFF MANOR, NY—In partnership with local labor unions and regional startup programs, Thalle Industries’ Dakota Concrete is tackling the driver shortage head-on by acquiring a custom-built Oshkosh S-Series Trainer Truck, the Briarcliff Manor-based company announced on Sept. 29.
Designed to deliver immersive, real-world instruction for the next generation of concrete mixer drivers, the new vehicle blends innovative fleet technology with a dedicated focus on workforce development, Thalle officials noted.
At the core of this program is a purpose-built cab specifically engineered to host two team members without sacrificing comfort or functionality. The Oshkosh S-Series Trainer Cab incorporates the exact same high-performance tech as standard models, but adds a comfortable, full-size air ride seat and enhanced legroom for the instructor—offering superior ergonomics compared to typical front discharge training rigs, company officials stated.
“Transitioning into heavy transit mix operations requires precision, safety, and deep familiarity with the equipment,” said Thalle Industries President and CEO Glenn Pacchiana. “Through this initiative, new hires undergo intensive, hands-on training for up to three months alongside certified, experienced drivers.”
Trainees receive real-time coaching on vehicle mechanics, maneuverability, and job-site safety directly from the passenger seat. Customers receive the same reliability and precision they expect, backed by drivers who have proven their skills in real-world scenarios. By investing in specialized equipment and collaborative union partnerships, Thalle Industries continues to set standards for safety, innovation, and professional career development in the ready-mix concrete industry, Mr. Pacchiana added.
