Westchester Promotes Ghabour to Director Of Design Coordination DPW/Transportation

WHITE PLAINS, NY—Westchester County announced it has appointed Susie Ghabour, P.E., to Director of Design Coordination in the Department of Public Works and Transportation. The appointment was recently announced by Commissioner of the Department Hugh J. Greechan, Jr., P.E.

In her new position, Ms. Ghabour will expand to responsibilities where she continues to manage some of Westchester County’s high-profile projects.

Among them is the nearing completion of the Glen Island Bridge reconstruction in New Rochelle, NY, the $78-million project to replace and repair to the 90-year-old crossing now being undertaken by Kiewit Infrastructure Co./Eastern District.

Other major infrastructure projects include the redevelopment of the multi-purpose Stadium at Memorial Field in Mount Vernon, NY, with 3,900-seat capacity for sports and entertainment. She also managed the reconstruction of the oldest county-owned recreation property, the Wilson Woods Park & Swimming Pool in Mount Vernon.

“Susie’s experience and proven skills make her exceptionally well-suited for her new role in the department,” Commissioner Greechan said. “She has demonstrated a deep commitment to working with contractors and community groups—talents that make her an invaluable asset to Westchester County.”

The list of ongoing and upcoming project work managed by Westchester DPW/Transportation and its Design Coordination unit include: 

  • Tuckahoe Road improvements and bridges rehabilitation over the Bronx River and its namesake parkway in Tuckahoe and Yonkers;
  • The replacement of Ward Ave Bridge over the Mamaroneck River in the Village of Mamaroneck as part of a flood mitigation initiative coordinated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers study for the Mamaroneck and Sheldrake Rivers;
  • Reconstruction of the Bronx River Parkway and Pathway in various locations;
  • Rehabilitation of Saxon Woods Pool Complex in Saxon Woods Park, City of White Plains;
  • Final completion of the recently reopened Glen Island Bridge in New Rochelle.

Ms. Ghabour joined Westchester County in 2017 as an assistant engineer and advanced to Senior Engineer in 2020, and Associate Engineer in 2022. Prior to joining Westchester County government, Ms. Ghabour worked as a design engineer for Tutor Perini Construction of New Rochelle, NY, and as a structural engineer for Maser Consulting P.A. of Chestnut Ridge, NY. She was graduated with a B.S.in Civil Engineering from Manhattan College (now University) in 2003.
