WHITE PLAINS, NY—Elizabeth Seton Children’s officials celebrated a major milestone last month when the Union Iron Workers hoisted the final steel beam that was placed atop the organization’s future young adult center here during the joyful “Topping Off” ceremony.

Much more than just a construction milestone, Elizabeth Seton leaders noted that the event “symbolized hope, perseverance and a promise to families whose children are facing the urgent aging-out crisis that leaves them with no appropriate options for the next chapter of their lives when pediatric care ends at age 21.”

Pat Tursi, CEO of Elizabeth Seton Children’s, continued, “This project is the convergence of vision, determination, partnership, advocacy, philanthropy and an extraordinary amount of hard work from countless people who believe deeply in what is possible for the beloved young people in our care.”

Rachel Amar, mother of Elizabeth Seton Children’s Center resident, Max, and an Elizabeth Seton Children’s board member herself, said, “I wish I could give my son everything myself,” she said. “But because of Elizabeth Seton Children’s—and many of you here today—Max and so many others will have a safe, loving home for the future. And for that I will be forever grateful.”

Elizabeth Seton officials noted that the opening of the youth adult center is projected in early 2028 and its capital campaign has $22 million left to raise for the project. The project has an estimated cost of $156 million.

Among the attending dignitaries were Westchester County Executive Ken Jenkins, Terrance Pearson of the FHA Finance for the AFL-CIO Housing Investment Trust, Jeff Loughlin of the Westchester Putnam Building & Construction Trades Council, and dozens of board members, donors and stakeholders from across Elizabeth Seton’s family of organizations.

EW Howell Construction Group of Plainview, NY, is the signatory contractor on the project labor agreement signed with the Westchester and Putnam Building & Construction Trades. Other contractors on the project included Montesano Brothers, Inc., for the sitework and utilities.
