Thalle Industries Celebrates 40th Anniversary
As Key Materials Supplier to the Contracting Industry

Thalle Industries has been a cornerstone of the New York contracting and construction landscape for four decades, evolving from a family-run supplier into a leading, environmentally responsible enterprise.

Headquartered in the Village of Briarcliff Manor in Westchester, the company provides high-quality, dependable materials—virgin and recycled aggregate, asphalt products, and concrete that the downstate contracting community and municipalities rely on to build New York’s future.

The history of Thalle Industries is deeply rooted in the rich history of the construction industry, tracing back to the Pacchiana family’s founding of Thalle Construction in 1947. An offshoot of that enterprise, Thalle Industries was founded in 1985 and today continues its legacy and tradition. President & CEO Glenn Pacchiana, representing the third generation, learned the business from the ground up, beginning at age 10 and formally joining as an engineer after graduating from Cornell University in 1990.

Thalle Industries employs some 70 staffers and crew at its two locations, in Elmsford in Westchester, above, and the Fishkill quarry in Dutchess County.
Crushed rock from Thalle’s Fishkill quarry is a key component in construction projects throughout the downstate region.
The Fishkill asphalt plant, above, supplied 4,900 tons of asphalt for a 1.5-mile stretch of Route 9A in Elmsford.

Innovation to Support the Contractor

Thalle ensures its success by providing exceptional service and innovative solutions that directly benefit contractors’ bottom lines.

“We make any product for any customer and treat our clients as we would like to be treated,” said Glenn Pacchiana. “The result has been 40 years of success.”

Prime examples of this innovation are the Virtual Quarry® in Elmsford and Montrose. These facilities solve a major logistical challenge for construction firms. They accept clean, uncontaminated concrete, asphalt pavement, and rock from demolition and excavation projects, transforming what would be waste into high-quality, recycled, quarry-grade products. This critical service saves contractors time and disposal costs while promoting sustainability.

With the Montrose site’s recent certification as a Con Edison-approved treatment, storage and disposal facility, the utility’s contractors have a new, convenient location to responsibly manage their projects’ waste. Dakota Concrete’s co-location at the Montrose site allows contractors to drop off waste and pick up materials, eliminating excess trips.

Thalle Industries’ original site—an asphalt plant and quarry in Fishkill—supplies high-quality, New York State DOT-compliant asphalt and virgin aggregate, all subject to stringent third-party testing.

Thalle Products: A Foundation for Local Projects

The quality and reliability of Thalle’s materials are evident in major projects across the region:

  • Aggregate: Crushed rock from the Fishkill quarry was a key component in the construction of the Amazon distribution center in Hawthorne.
  • Asphalt: The Fishkill asphalt plant supplied 4,900 tons of asphalt for a 1.5-mile stretch of Route 9A in Elmsford.
  • Recycled Material: The Virtual Quarry® in Elmsford crushed and responsibly recycled significant amounts of demolition debris from the former White Plains Mall. The Elmsford site also supplied material to the Regeneron Expansion Project in Mount Pleasant.

Leading with Environmental Stewardship

A deep commitment to environmental responsibility defines Thalle’s four decades of partnership with the construction industry. This value increasingly benefits contractors seeking green solutions.

  • Green Quarrying: The Fishkill Quarry was one of the state’s first “green quarries.” Thalle pioneered a process of reclaiming land and planting trees on “benches” concurrently with the mining process, a practice recognized with the prestigious Outreach Award from the National Association of State Land Reclamationists.
  • Clean Energy Asphalt: Thalle’s asphalt plant was the Hudson Valley’s first high-performance, zero-emissions plant of its kind.
  • Environmental Recognition: Glenn Pacchiana’s dedication to sustainable practices earned him and Thalle Industries high honors from The NY League of Conservation Voters in 2011, a rare recognition for an individual in the mining and construction industry.

A Culture of Loyalty and Support

At the heart of Thalle’s longevity is a commitment to its people and the broader community, a philosophy essential for supporting the construction industry workforce. Glenn Pacchiana sees Thalle’s employees as its most important asset, its “Rock Stars.”

The company is proud of the loyalty it fosters through its many professional development opportunities, including executive coaching and leadership courses, and team-building events. This culture has fostered father-son teams and even led to Thalle supporting an employee who started his own landscaping business during the pandemic—a testament to the family-first philosophy that defines the company.

From its Virtual Quarry® in Elmsford, Thalle crushes and responsibly recycles significant amounts of demolition debris to supply materials at construction projects throughout the region.
