Fifth Annual Softball for Charity Raises $18K To Fund Food Relief Efforts in Ukraine War

TARRYTOWN, NY — The annual CIC Softball Classic took place on Friday, September 12, under perfect sunny skies, bringing together two spirited teams — the Builders and the Pavers — along with a lively crowd of fans at Losee Park on the Hudson River waterfront. Matt Fante of Darante Construction, Ltd. served as the game’s designated pitcher.

This non-competitive game celebrates camaraderie, fun, and giving back.

This year’s teams were proudly represented by Advance Testing, Inc., Darante Construction, Ltd., ECCO III Enterprises, Inc., Gallagher Risk Management, Montesano Brothers, Inc., Thalle Industries, Inc., and Welby, Brady & Greenblatt, LLP.

As in past years, the game was played against the stunning backdrop of the Gov. Mario M. Cuomo Bridge — a fitting tribute to the construction industry’s skill and craftsmanship. The event raised nearly $18,000 from 21 company sponsors, underwriters, and labor unions to support orphans and families in Ukraine. For the fourth consecutive year, CIC partnered with St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church in Yonkers to ensure these life-sustaining funds reach trusted charity partners overseas.

The unique one-pitch-at-bat format kept the action moving, giving every player a chance to swing each inning.

“The 5th Annual Construction Industry Council Charity Softball Game for the benefit of the Ukrainian Relief Fund was a great way to enjoy time together outside the office, support a meaningful cause, have a friendly competition, and make new friends,” said John Cooney, Jr., executive director of the CIC and Event Commissioner. “Thank you to all our generous sponsors for supporting a great cause!”

The afternoon kicked off with a stirring rendition of the National Anthem, led by violinist Nick Szucs of Montesano Bros. and a quartet of voices. After six exciting innings, the Builders came out on top to claim this year’s win.

Mark your calendars now for September 18, 2026, and join us for another unforgettable afternoon of teamwork, generosity, and community spirit.
