When a Highway Emergency Unfolded, East Coast Industrial Services Got the Call.

East Coast Industrial Services has evolved from its roots as a small, family-run landscaping business to become the bustling, WBE/DBE-certified contractor with a team of more than 40 full-time employees.

The company offers a full range of industrial, municipal and construction site support services, which meet DOT standards, in the areas of site safety plans and environmental compliance to help contractors stay on schedule and in good standing.

“Yes, we’ve grown in scale from our startup days thirty years ago,” said ECIS President & CEO Laurie Presutti looking back tiny operation then. “Today we have a fleet of trucks and equipment that traverse New York and neighboring states.”

Ms. Presutti was quick to add, “And we’ve grown in purpose too, with new programs, new systems and new alignments to ensure we can maintain our reputation for reliability and performance.”

Women-Led. Union-Strong. Future-Focused

Ms. Presutti and family members are driving the next phase of growth, supported by a dedicated team a revised strategic plan. As a specialty services firm, with designations as a MWBE, DBE and NYCWBE-certified, ECIS began the pivot several years ago to meet the needs of both public and private clients in the construction contracting community.

A recent major step forward was its new alignment, forged in April 2025, as a signatory with Operating Engineers Local 825. The new union affiliation has opened the door to a larger market of public works and priority contracts.

“Business is already picked up,” noted ECIS Vice President Kimberly Presutti. “To support that growth, we’ve been expanding across all areas of the company. We’ve added two newly wrapped branded trucks, enhancing both our capacity and curb appeal. These updates are part of our broader efforts to improve performance across the full range of services we offer.”

One day this past September, a phone call came in that would demonstrate to the entire ECIS enterprise that its commitment to planning, preparation and hard work is paying off. “We got an urgent phone call in September from a major customer, ELQ Industries, that our services were needed as that contractor began emergency repairs to the Saw Mill River Parkway in Lower Westchester,” said President Presutti.

On Sun., Sept. 8, a portion of the roadway in Hastings-on-Hudson collapsed, shutting down a portion of that vital parkway for the rush-hour commutes the next day. “ELQ called us in for emergency clean up after the new road was paved. It was all over the news. We were extremely proud to answer the bell on this one! Especially with an important customer we’ve worked with for a long time.”

She stressed that success for an enterprise like ECIS is never random; it’s the result of an organization-wide commitment to readiness that allowed the firm to seize a moment and demonstrate to the broader construction industry our scale, our readiness and our purpose. We’re proud of where we came from—and even more excited about where we’re going.”

People & Safety First—And It Shows

The addition of HR Manager and Safety Director Kristin Menge—another strong female hire—has quickly improved morale, strengthened client relationships and driven new business. Her leadership reinforces ECIS’s long-standing commitment to safety, compliance and quality, while further supporting the company’s WBE status and dedication to building a diverse, capable team.
