DASNY Tours Port Chester’s Progress

To Expand Affordable Housing Stock

PORT CHESTER, NY—Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) President and CEO Robert J. Rodriguez, in his first visit to Port Chester on May 23, met with village officials and toured community development projects that aim to create more affordable housing units.

The village-hosted tour included the planned Village Hall Gym revitalization site, downtown buildings under construction for residential conversion as well as portions of “The Loop” pedestrian connectivity project.

“What impressed me most about Port Chester is how village leaders are creating opportunity while honoring the culture and connections that define this community,” said Mr. Rodriguez. “The thoughtful integration of housing, community spaces and pedestrian infrastructure shows a real commitment to helping families live, work and raise children here. The Village Hall Gym and The Loop pedestrian improvement initiative demonstrate how strategic investments can strengthen a community’s sense of place.”

He noted that projects like those in Port Chester reflect broader statewide efforts to address affordability while supporting economic development in construction, hospitality and retail sectors.

The day began with village officials presenting their comprehensive vision, including current projects and long-term development goals that extend beyond existing approvals.

“We were pleased to spotlight the work happening in Port Chester and share our vision for making this an even better place for families,” said Port Chester Mayor Luis A. Marino. “President Rodriguez’s visit gave us the opportunity to demonstrate the potential that exists here and discuss how we can continue building momentum on community-driven projects that strengthen our sense of place.”

The tour provided DASNY leadership with insights into municipal approaches to development financing and community planning. DASNY administers grant programs statewide and provides tax-exempt bond financing for eligible public projects across New York.

“Community revitalization is about embracing opportunity while honoring what has shaped us,” said Village Manager Stuart Rabin. “The Village Hall Gym project, supported through the advocacy of Assemblyman Steve Otis and State Sen. Shelley Mayer—along with The Loop pedestrian improvement initiative and our housing developments—represent our commitment to building a stronger sense of place. We’re looking forward while staying true to the connections that make Port Chester special.”
