SUFFERN, NY—High school students from across the Hudson Valley will meet with union building trade experts—as part of an introduction to skills-building and technical training needed for union careers—at the 24th Annual Hudson Valley Construction Career Day scheduled this week. The career exposition will be staged at the Rockland Community College Fieldhouse on Thursday evening, March 27 for parents and kids, and on Friday, March 28 for schools bringing their students.

NEW YORK—In just two months of operation, the congestion relief program is ticking all the boxes it was designed for: it’s meeting revenue projections and it’s reducing traffic by taking people out of their cars and putting them into subways and buses. The MTA said on Fri., March 21, that it’s on track to meet net revenue projections of $500 million for needed improvements and upgrades to the mass transit system.

TOWN OF WALLKILL, NY—The major construction project to upgrade State Route 17’s Exit 122 interchange here in Orange County will reconfigure the roadway to meet federal interstate standards. The $67.8-million project is now underway and will transform the eastern portion of the interchange to create a new roadway system that will enhance safety and improve traffic flow at this vital junction serving this fast-growing region of the state.

ALBANY—Work has begun in earnest on a $19.4-million New York State Thruway project to rehabilitate two aging bridges on the Thruway in the Village of Suffern, NY in Rockland County.

WASHINGTON—Following years of seeking relief for an ailing multiemployer pension plan for union workers, New York’s International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local Union 1783 Fund, which covers electrical workers in the Hudson Valley, will receive an approximately $45.9 million pension-fix, it was announced this week.

ALBANY—New York State’s largest association of business organizations told lawmakers here it is “imperative” for them to fully fund the MTA’s $68.4 billion capital program, which is now being considered.
