Newburgh School District Opens $75-Million New Career And Technical Educational Center

NEWBURGH, NY — A host of city, business and education leaders, along with local building trades representatives, gathered on Aug. 31 for the ceremonial ribbon cutting of the landmark $75-million Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center built behind the Newburgh Free Academy building here.

The event, hosted by Newburgh Enlarged School District Superintendent Dr. Jackielyn Manning Campbell, celebrated the completion of the state of the art, 132,000 square foot building, which officially opened on Sept. 3 and serves 500 students. The CTE offers 17 different workforce training programs, including several that specialize in the construction and building trades.

The 17 programs include: Auto Body, Auto Technology, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Barbering, Construction (Carpentry), Construction Electrical, Fashion Design, HVAC, Health Sciences, Pet Grooming, Photography, Plumbing, Veterinary Science, Video Production and Welding.

The ribbon cutting for the new Career and Technical Education Center was held on Aug. 31, and classes are now in session at the $75-million facility.

The CTE project was built under a Project Labor Agreement with general contractor Pike Construction Services.

The Mid-Hudson Times reported that Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jackie Manning Campbell said at the event: “This new building really provides life altering possibilities for our children and our community.”

Newburgh Mayor Torrance Harvey described the new CTE center as “a super significant game changer in education in the Hudson Valley and the State of New York.”

Todd Diorio, president of the Hudson Valley Building & Construction Trades Council, told CONSTRUCTION NEWS: “We are thankful for the long-term relationship between the Hudson Valley Building and Construction Trades and the Newburgh School District and their commitment to local union labor in the use of PLAs for over two decades. We look forward to working closely and partnering with faculty and students from the CTE programs to fulfill our future needs in the construction industry.”
